Good on you Rhodes and Beckett!

If you’re looking for a great shirt which will fit you and styles which you find in department stores just don’t fit you, pop into Rhodes and Beckett. I went there because my husband needed some shirts. He’s always on the lookout for good quality work shirts and knows what he’s talking about when it comes to quality shirts, having spent many years in the corporate industry.

While in store I browsed through the ladies selection and found that the shirts were not all corporate, but had so much colour and character. Print and bold shades were jumping out and when I saw the quality of  ”finest Egyptian cotton” as their website states, I decided to try some just for kicks.

May I add the service in the Pitt St Mall Store is impeccable?

I say good on you Rhodes and Beckett because when I walk into that particular store I am treated like a customer should be treated. The staff know exactly what they are doing and to save you the hassle of looking for sizes they size you first, then bring out all the colours/styles which are in stock so you can choose. It was like being in a prestigious market place, surrounded by colour and smiles.

Just look at these fantastic prints:

To be honest, I haven’t experienced service like that in a Westfield store in Australia yet. I can only compare it to fine dining experiences, maybe the Guillaume at Bennelong. You are expected to pay top dollar for that however. At Rhodes and Beckett you are not.

You pay for quality.

Everytime I wear my Rhodes and Beckett shirts, I get compliments from people. I now have 4 in my collection.

I don’t think of Rhodes and Beckett as a man’s corporate brand (I mistakenly did think they were a men’s brand only) any more  and absolutely embrace the quality of their clothing and style.

Absolutely love the white cuff – very elegant

My recent buy:

Once you wear these shirts you will not settle for lesser quality- guaranteed.

The timelessness and elegance of this brand + top quality service is what will keep this company afloat.

This one is my favourite buy:

Rhodes and Beckett is probably a prime example of what Aussie retail businesses need to do to survive in this tough economic market.

Right now Rhodes and Beckett are having a 30% off already reduced sale items – storewide clearance.

You can shop online here

Or in store – you’ll be blown away by the service – just walk in

NZ trip part 1 – The Antipodes beauty

One of my girlfriend’s from NZ introduced me to the Antipodes brand face cream about 2 years ago. Its an amazing face cream with vanilla bean and made out of all natural ingredients. Although super moisturising, this creamy blend of scented goodness is quite light and gets easily absorbed into the skin. Its a day cream after all and we can’t be walking around looking oiled up and shiny.

Here is the little pot of gold:

The main ingredients are avocado oil, macadamia nuts, manuka honey and kawakawa. Each of these products on their own ooze awesomeness, imagine what happens when you put them together?

I can’t get enough of this moisturiser and when I ran out I couldn’t find any in Sydney (this was 2 years back). When I went online, I did see some in vitamin shops but they were over $100. This cream cost $50 NZD which means a big win for AUD! The Antipodes brand is NZ owned and made. I am more than sure that you will start seeing this brand in department stores and supermarkets very soon.

I had to get one for myself, my mum and my mother in law while in Auckland.

The girls at the Farmer’s (NZ department store) counter were asking where I was taking all these products and I said I am running an export to Australia :)

I also bought these for myself and my mum as her birthday present:

Night Cream – this one doesn’t smell as amazing as the day cream Vanilla Pod, but does wonders for dry skin.

The Skin Savour balm – for all your skin care healing and moisture needs. This is what the product says: Cell and skin repair are dramatically optimized by antioxidant-rich echinacea and Vinanza Grape from grape seeds in this pure and natural cure-all that brings rescue daily. Use it to help the whole family with dry and cracked skin, grazes and bruises, chapped lips, sore muscles, sunburn, natural baby care, protection after shaving, conditioning cuticles, and in-flight hydration.

Key ingredients: Vinanza grape, tea tree and totara

This face oil is good to use after cleansing and before moisturising. I use mine at night. It cleanses and hydrates skin. Think of it as a midnight snack for your skin :)

The oil came in a pack with the Organic Lip Balm. Key ingredients: Cocoa butter and lime. Great product!

On the Antipodes site  you can now shop online and it looks like you can buy these items in Australia too. It is much cheaper to get them in their Mother Land of New Zealand but I urge you to try them either way :)

I hope that this becomes another great things that has come out of the little country called Aotearoa (the land of the long white cloud) because it truly is a great natural company.

TONYMOLY – discovery

This is a Korean cosmetics and skincare brand which I’ve recently discovered in a Morning Glory store in the Sydney CBD.

What I fell in love with was :

1. The packaging – everything is in a unique/cute/pretty packaging. Whether its a fruit shaped lip gloss box or a styled tint, it just looks incredibly appealing.

7 Fruit Princess Gloss

Cutie lip gloss that gives a clear glow to the lips

2. The colours and the range – The number of different products they have will have you struggling to buy just one thing at a time. I know I wanted to buy the entire range when I saw it on the shelves. Had to restrain myself to just 1 lip tint but am definitely going back for more!

Backstage Oh! My Lip

3. The quality – From what I’ve read so far, the makeup and skincare products are great. I can’t speak for every product in the range, but from what I’ve tried and read reviews on TonyMoly products don’t often disappoint.

Read a review on a TonyMoly Face primer from becoming-beautiful here

4. The fragrances – Everything smells fantastic! I know that most of the times fragrances are bad but I am not a big fan of fragrance-free make up as it’s not aesthetically pleasing. Give me a cherry flavoured lippy anytime!

Prestige Crystal Lipstick/SPF13
Clear cased lipstick with UV blocking functions

5. The price –  Really awesome fact – TonyMoly cosmetics are more than affordable. My lip tint was $12 when I just paid $40 for a Benetint the other day. The quality of TonyMoly is the same, if not better.

The brand concept is Chic, Urban, Stylish & Modern – and that’s exactly what the products reflect.

To have a look at the brand and the range of products go to their website here http://eng.tonymoly.com/ (this is the international site)

Nail Lacquer Glitter

This is the product I bought:

TONYMOLY Backstage Sure Tint in Peach

There is an easy applicator brush

Pink/Peach colour with a bit of sparkle

This is the colour on – the tint lasts for at least 4 hours and is quite bright so I try and layer a lighter finish lipgloss over the top. Its so nice not to have lipstick on coffee cups in the morning!

Would love to hear from you if you’ve tried TonyMoly before and have a product you recommend!

Kiwano Melon – the fashion behind yellow

Once grown only in New Zealand, Melissa’s Kiwano Melons are now grown in California as well. Consumers are drawn to these intriguing, yet versatile tropical fruits whose look easily captures attention. The spiky, orange colored shells of Kiwano Melons encase a soft, succulent bright green flesh. Kiwano Melons are mild in flavor and similar in taste to juicy, seed-filled cucumbers. Once peeled, Kiwano Melons can be tossed in fresh fruit salads or served as a garnish with roasted meats. Source

How great is this fruit?

And now the inspiration behind the Kiwano Melon ( I would like to try it as I like cucumbers :) ) in the fashion department:

ASOS PETITE Exclusive Pleat Front Sleeveless Shift Dress RRP$52.19

June Shopping List – Heels, Hair stuff and Hot Water Bottles

Through my endeavours, I have collated a wish list for the month of June – these are my shopping finds. Some tested, some not yet, but if I do will definitely post about it.

Here are the picks, in no particular order, judged only by appeal and an awesomeness factor be it via reviews, trials or just plain eye candy.

1. Zara Perspex Heels. I found these on a blog called A Thousand Departed  Friends

TwiceTheBlog also posted about these shoes – recent purchases!

I haven’t succeeded in getting these in ZARA store in Sydney, but found some online shops that sell similar shoes here:

ASOS RRP$110.50

Donna Karan Perspex wedge sandals RRP$570

New Look Perspex Heel Platforms RRP £44.99

If I succeed in buying a pair of any of these shoes, I’ll be very happy :)

2. Hair Product : Cedel Blow Dry Faster Heat Protector

I tried a sample of this product the other day and it’s made my ‘can’t live without list’ straight away. The label says that your hair drying time is reduced dramatically with this spray on deodorant looking bottle. It certainly has worked for me. I have long, thick hair and sometimes I confess, I go to the hairdressers just so I don’t have to wash my own hair as the drying takes forever. With this product I am happy to do it myself – no excuses! It’s a 2 in 1 so it also protects your hair from heat.

Cedel Blow Dry Faster Heat Pr0tector RRP$9.99

3. More hair stuff … I was intrigued by this product: Redken Powder Grip. This is a mattifying hair powder that helps create volume and gives hair extra grip to create various hair styles. I would like to try it and see if it really helps create more hair styles. I struggle to come up with alternatives to just out vs pony tail, maybe this will help.

http://www.beautyheaven.com.au/product_images/35085/redken-style-connection-powder-grip-03.jpg

Redken Powder Grip RRP$20.95

4. TonyMoly Lipglosses

These are just too adorable to not have in your purse. TonyMoly is a Korean cosmetics brand – check out their website here.

So far I’ve only seen these being sold at Morning Glory shops in Sydney ( BLOG post here), but I’m sure this brand will start popping up more and more.

5. Hot water bottle cover

It’s cold, today was probably one of the coldest days EVER! Rain and wind and app temperature of 3 degrees…Sheesh!

So I need one of these..just by looking at them, I start to feel warm….ahhh!

Hot water bottle cover from Dotcomgiftshop RRP$20.32

Heart Hot Water Bottle Cover RRP$20.32

6. Clio party arms – $9.94 at Big W.Unfortunately I can’t find a link any more as this offer is no longer on their catalogue, but I will try and pop into a store to find one of these. These are handy as I dance and also do pilates. Now that it’s cold also in the studio, I won’t have to wear a jumper and then take it off half way through class. These are great!

That’s it for now. I’ll stick to this list for June.

Do you have any awesome shopping items you’ve got on your list?

What’s the story Morning Glory?

Why haven’t I been to one of these stores before?

After a weeknight dinner with a friend (Wednesday night), I stumbled into a cute store called Morning Glory. I’ve seen them all around town but figured the stuff they sell would have no meaning to me as it was all oversized toy pigs and funky looking alarm clocks in the display window. Something possessed me that night to walk in and take a look, maybe I was just passing time…not sure…

What happened was – I didn’t come out of the store until an hour later and didn’t realise it got so late….

I was like a kid in a candy store!

I felt like I was re-living my childhood for the minutes I was in Morning Glory, looking and picking out funny looking pens, choosing the pattern for my pencil case, ogling the pretty hair ties and mobile phone covers….

Truth is, I wasn’t looking for anything in particular, just was blown away by how much “STUFF” was inside this little boutique.

An hour later and a surprising amount of stuff I found I needed, here is what I walked away with: (I still feel like I was hypnotised in the store and don’t quite remember what happened! oh the bright lights of Hello Kitty!)

Morning Glory pencil case – helps me get organised again with all my writing utensils for studies

Panda pen

Highlighters and marker pens

This one is for my Mum, she is a piano teacher and works with kids. I thought this would be a great addition to her lessons!

Told ya it was like being a kid in a candy store- who doesn’t love crayons!!!

Live is Good and Sweet notebook! Amen!

This penguin pencil is a later addition to my spree during the week. I just bought it! (tehehee)

Justification – I need a pencil for circling things in my study book – don’t judge!

To find Morning Glory in Sydney join their FB page here – there are loads of awesome products they showcase there.

Something to LOL at – the photo below was taken from the Morning Glory Facebook page gallery of visitors to the store. Its nice to know even ONE DIRECTION shops at this boutique (no offence boys who look like One Direction and pose with a “pe-a-su” sign inside a totally awesome store.)

This is the shop where I become Alice in Wonderland:
